Do you wanna get Poshed?

When it all falls, when it all falls down I'll be your fire when the lights go out When there's no one, no one else around We'll be two souls in a ghost town...

The radio plays in the background as I glance at the glass reflecting back at me. I sit back in the black salon chair as I relish the last time I will see that exact reflection staring back at me. My dark brunette hair with caramel babylights will no longer frame my face, in it's place will be lightened hair, getting me ready for the summer. No surprise to anyone who knows me. I've been dubbed a hair-snob by those closest to me. Of course I have to change it with the season (Or everytime I find something on Pintrest.)

A year previous, I dreaded getting my hair done, let alone cut. I had a long list of "Can I get blended layers" that turned into lobs and dye jobs that turned into orange hair. Calling salons and asking for a "top level stylist" became tedious, especially with two month waiting periods. Getting my hair done became a chore and I dreaded every second of it.

When I decided I wanted a drastic change from my dark brunette locks, I called up all my friends and asked for a great salon recommendation. Almost everyone said, "Oh I don't go to a salon." So I turned to Google to find a stylist who looked skilled and trustworthy. In that search, I found Sivong and Salon Posh.

I used to go to a salon about 2-3 times a year. Since he became my stylist, I've gone 5 times. Each time, I changed my hair color in some way. Add highlights, darken it, is it possible to get the red out of my hair? Each time, he was completely honest with what he could and couldn't do. The results were always better than I dreamed of. They didn't just match the color and cut from the photos and descriptions I gave him, but instead, the ideas were adapted to fit my hair color, skin color, face shape and style. They were made unique for me. My daily messy buns and braids became curled hair, sleek straight locks and beach waves. For the first time in years, I took pride in my hair.

I would never dream of using box-dye anywhere near my scalp again. My frizzy mane was tamed with a concoction of Oplex products and I became the friend who swore by her hairstylist.

"You're not thinking of bleaching your hair by yourself are you? I know this guy..."
"You paid how much for that? Oh honey, my hair stylist..."
"You dyed your hair with a $10 at home Ombre kit! Have I ever told you about the place I go to..."

What can I say? I'm a big fan of giving credit when credit is due.

Fast forward to present day. I've rewritten this post three times. It's fair enough to say, I don't know the best way to put into words, how much a great hairstylist and great hair salon can do. When I walk into Posh, I see a modern, open and inviting space. The decor is to die for, and it even has me reconsidering my bedroom palette. It doesn't reak of chemicals, music is always playing in the background and the seats are comfortable (don't get me started with some of the salon chairs I've sat in). When you sit in the chair, you do not have an awkward hour long silence with your stylist. In fact, you engage in conversation with all the stylists and the clients in the salon. Perfect strangers for one hour, become your best friend.

I'm the kind of person who is perfectly polite, quiet and proper when I'm around people I don't know. It was just the way I was raised. Don't speak unless spoken to or you have a kind complement to pay. But when I'm at Posh, I act the way I do around those closest to me. I always have, even from the first visit.

I discuss the news, pop culture, and whatever is on my instagram feed. I laugh and join in conversations. I admit to my coffee addiction and occasionally enjoy the cup of coffee in the chair. And sometimes I let it slip that I tragically have "no (or very little) filter." (But to be fair, I'm a pretty blunt person.) Simply put, I'm perfectly comfortable at Posh. Sitting in the chair, you don't feel like you're being judged or analyzed. But rather, like you're sitting with your best friends gossiping, if your best friends were hair geniuses and the cafe was a gorgeous salon.

Salon Posh was the salon I wish I knew existed when I was 14 and I needed a confidence boost. It was the salon I wish I knew existed when my diy highlights fried my hair, and it was the salon I wish I knew existed when I sat in an uncomfortable salon chair looking at a lob with bangs I never wanted. The salon I never knew existed. It was the salon I never knew I needed.

I'm not saying perfect hair will change your life, but it'll at least improve your confidence level drastically. I could write a thousand testimonials for Salon Posh and Sivong and I still wouldn't be able to grasp how important a great stylist is. I know when I go to Salon Posh, I know I will not leave with damaged hair, I know my color will last a reasonable time, and I know I will not be promised something that cannot be obtained. However I do know, I can not only be myself, but I can get a new look that will reflect who I am. I will spend one to two hours laughing, talking about social media, and enjoying myself. Pictures of dogs will be exchanged, fashion trends will be talked about and I will leave happier than when I came in.

  7. so great you find a saloon you are perfectly sadisfied with! I do agree with you....being happy with our hair can do wonders for our self esteem. The right hair stylist will be there to advise us in the best way possible and that is sometimes the most important thing.

  10. I love changing up my hair! I usually only go to the salon once a year, because I like growing my hair out really long and then chopping it off into a short bob. I think it's really awesome that you've developed a relationship with your hairdresser, because you have someone that really understands your hair. I get my hair done by someone else every time (which isn't very often), and sometimes I don't even get it done in the same country! My last three trips to the salon were in China, Taiwan, and Japan, in that order. Anyways, loving your hair :D -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

  25. This is such a nice and beautifully written post! :)
I once bleached my hair by myself and it turned out absolutely disastrous!
It wasn't even blond it was orange - since I have a lot of red particles in my hair.. Oh..I felt so ashamed when visiting the local hair dresser the next day and they literally treated me like an emergency..
    I have definitely learned from that experience ^^;
